Roseau, Dominica – December 15, 2023
The Fort Young Hotel has stepped in to host the Dominica Council on Ageing (DCOA) fundraising Christmas dinner at the Palisades Restaurant on Friday, December 22, 2023. The venue change comes after the unfortunate and unexpected loss of Daniel Langlois and Dominique Marchand, the proprietors of Coulibri Ridge Resort, the event’s original location.

Expressing gratitude toward Fort Young Hotel for their generous offer, Nigel Lawrence, President of the DCOA, acknowledged the uncertainties faced by organizers in light of the tragic news. “Due to the devastating news, we were truly unsure if it would go on. It’s a relief to know that the show will now take place at Fort Young, and I encourage everyone to attend or tune in to the livestream to support our cause.”
The theme of the event is “Bouyon Jazz Christmas,” featuring a performance by Carlyn XP, Dominica’s Bouyon Queen. Carlyn XP, known for her dynamic stage presence, will be returning to the stage for the first time since her extended absence, offering a set of originals and holiday favorites.

Carlyn XP, whose musical journey has garnered a substantial fan base, expressed her honor in playing a role in this holiday fundraising event for the DCOA. “This is a worthy cause. The elderly are truly close to my heart – as a musician and as someone who worked in healthcare as a nurse; so I am really honored that the DCOA thought of me to pull off this momentous event.”
Delwin James, Events and Retail Manager at Fort Young Hotel expressed excitement about hosting the DCOA event and emphasized the hotel’s commitment to enhancing guest experiences while supporting local initiatives. “Our team has put together a wonderful menu that will ensure a memorable dining experience. Beyond fundraising, this occasion provides patrons with an opportunity to share in the love, joy, and peace of Christmas.”
The Fort Young Hotel’s involvement in hosting this fundraiser aligns with its recent $18 million re-imagination and expansion, showcasing its dedication to supporting local initiatives.
The DCOA, advocating for the rights and well-being of Dominica’s elderly population for the past 31 years, continues its efforts through events like the National Month of the Elderly and specialized services for older individuals. The organization is still seeking sponsors for the Bouyon Jazz Christmas fundraising concert.
For sponsorship or contributions, individuals are encouraged to contact the DCOA at (767) 613-8551 or via email at dcoainc@gmail.com. Updates on the event can be found on the Dominica Council on Ageing Facebook page at www.facebook.com/DCOAINC.
