Dominica China Friendship Hospital Addresses Offensive Voicenote Incident

Roseau, Dominica – January 25, 2024

Nate Media can confirm that the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCHF) has concluded an investigation into the circulation of a series of offensive voicenotes from a staff member commenting on the condition and care of deceased Dominican Journalist Ferdina Frampton. In response to public outcry & subject to the investigation findings, the Dominica Hospitals Authority initiated disciplinary procedures against the identified staff member, who subsequently resigned, effective Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

According to a statement from the Authority the management of DCHF and the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Social Services strongly condemned the act of the employee, the statement further emphasized their commitment to protecting patient health information and preventing breaches of confidentiality.

The incident was further regarded as a violation of the organization’s policies and, by extension, the public service of Dominica.

Addressing the issue, the Dominica Hospitals Authority Act, No. 8 of 2021, Section 49 emphasized the confidentiality obligations of every member and officer of the Authority. Any intentional or malicious attempt to undermine the integrity of the hospital and tarnish its reputation will result in appropriate disciplinary measures.

Additionally the statement from the Authority stated that, the management will implement measures to ensure that all staff members sign an oath of confidentiality upon employment and fully understand the consequences of breaching patient trust and confidentiality.

This incident underscores the necessity of reviewing rules, policies, and systems to safeguard patient confidentiality and privacy. To reinforce these principles, all team members will undergo retraining and sensitization regarding the significance of confidentiality, trust, and integrity within the hospital.
