Roseau, Dominica – January 26, 2024
The Dominica Hospitals Authority (DHA) has announced the resumption of elective surgeries at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, effective Wednesday, January 24, 2024 according to a release from the Government of Dominica. The release informed that, patients with scheduled surgery dates were urged to adhere to their appointments and present for admission as previously instructed.
This decision comes on the heels of a prior memo issued by the hospital administration, temporarily suspending elective surgeries. The suspension raised concerns and drew the attention of Dominicans & Dominica’s Minister of Health, Cassani Laville, who expressed deep concern over the lack of proper consultation and adherence to established guidelines in the decision-making process.
Minister Laville emphasized that such impactful decisions, affecting patient care, should follow the protocols outlined in the Hospitals Authority Act of 2021. The Act stipulates the pivotal role of the board in coordinating the administration and operation of the authority, making it imperative for recommendations to be made to the minister regarding the development of the authority and healthcare services.
