The West Indies Under 19 Cricket Team ha pulled off a sensational two-wicket win against England In a thrilling encounter at the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup, securing their place in the Super Six round. Captain Stephane Pascal, speaking shortly after the triumph, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and highlighted the promising signs for the rest of the tournament.
“I feel it’s starting to come together for me, so I feel I just have to continue going,” said Pascal, indicating his personal form and confidence. The interviewer praised Nathan Edward for his remarkable contribution, both with the bat and the ball, especially his three-wicket haul with the new ball. In response, Pascal commended Edward’s maturity, emphasizing the importance of his experience gained from previous World Cups.
“Well, it’s what we need, you know, him playing the first World Cup, the last World Cup, and then coming here to play this World Cup. It shows that he is up to the task and he is ready for it, and he wants to show everyone that he is ready,” explained Pascal.
When asked about the team’s future prospects in the competition, Pascal expressed confidence and hinted at the untapped potential within the squad. “The few glimpses that you have seen here, it’s not really close to the amount of what we can do, so I feel there’s a lot to come,” he said, signaling that West Indies U19 has more to offer in the tournament.
In the thrilling match against England, Nathan Edward played a pivotal role, scoring an unbeaten 49 and taking 3 for 28. Supported by Isai Thorne (2/40), Raneico Smith (2/28), and Tarrique Edward, the Windies bowled out England for 192. In the chase, Captain Pascal anchored the innings with a steady 58, and Edward’s crucial partnerships guided West Indies to a two-wicket victory.
