Republic Bank has issued a warning to its customers regarding a surge in phishing attempts aimed at deceiving customers into providing their online login information. These fraudulent activities have been designed to mimic Republic Bank Alerts Email Communications, posing a significant threat to customers’ online security.
The fraudsters are sending out emails with a false transaction alert, asking customers if they want to dispute the transaction and directing them to click on a link.
This link leads to a fraudulent website that closely resembles the official Republic Bank online site but is not authentic. Customers are then prompted to enter their RepublicOnline User Login ID, RepublicOnline Password, Secret Answer (which is never required for a transaction alert), personal email, and email password—information the bank would never ask for.
How to Spot Phishing?
- Suspicious Email Addresses: Be wary of emails that appear to be from Republic Bank but contain subtle misspellings. For example, an email from internetbanking@ec.rfhl is not legitimate, as all official emails come from internetbanking@rfhl.com.
- Suspicious Links or Attachments: Always check the URL before clicking on any links. Hover over the link to see the actual URL without clicking on it. Authentic Republic Bank Transaction Alert emails will never ask you to click on any link within the email.
- Online Banking Services in Email: Republic Bank will never ask you to sign into RepublicOnline or RepublicMobile from Transaction Alert emails. Always access your accounts by logging in directly from the bank’s official website or mobile app.
