Security Breach at Marigot Co-Operative Credit Union: President Confirms Matter Under Investigation

Marigot, Dominica – January 17, 2024

In an unfortunate incident during the evening of Monday, January 15, 2024, the main branch of the Marigot Co-operative Credit Union located at Weirs Marigot experienced a security breach. Mr. Gregory Riviere, President of the Board, in a statement to Nate Media provided details on the incident and reassured members and the public that their business was in good hands at the MCCU.

According to Riviere the intruder gained access by breaking and entering through a small shutter window, causing minimal physical damage to the building. The extent of the damage included a few tiles in the ceiling and damage to the adjoining door leading to the ground and first floor. Initial assessments confirmed that no documents or files were tampered with, and crucially, the intruder had no access to cash.

Mr. Riviere, in his statement, emphasized that the situation is currently under police investigation. Updates will be provided to the public as more information becomes available. Despite the incident, he assured members and the general public that their business is secure at the Marigot Co-operative Credit Union, and there is no need for panic or anxiety.

Following a brief closure to facilitate the police investigation, operations at the credit union have resumed. Mr. Riviere apologized for any inconvenience caused during this temporary closure and thanked members for their understanding.
