Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit Advocates for Ocean Conservation at Our Ocean Conference

ROSEAU, Dominica – April 17, 2024

Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit is set to address global leaders at the 9th Our Ocean Conference in Athens, Greece, urging concerted efforts to implement climate-smart initiatives for ocean conservation. The conference, themed “Our Ocean – An Ocean of Potential,” commenced on Tuesday 16th April & will Run into Wednesday 17 April, 2024, the conference brings together heads of government, NGOs, academia, and civil society representatives to address pressing issues facing marine ecosystems.

At the forefront of discussions will be the transition to a Blue Economy and strategies to combat threats such as biodiversity loss, climate change, unsustainable fishing practices, and marine pollution. Prime Minister Skerrit will emphasize the critical role of international collaboration in safeguarding the health and biodiversity of our oceans.

In addition to his participation in the conference, Prime Minister Skerrit will deliver remarks at the opening ceremony of the 1st Our Ocean Film Festival, showcasing Dominica’s potential as a vibrant destination for film and documentary productions.

During the Prime Minister’s absence, Hon. Roland Royer, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy, assumes the role of Acting Prime Minister.
