Ciudad De Guatemala, Guatemala — The Dominica Senior Men’s National Football Team faced a challenging start to their Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers campaign, suffering a heavy defeat against Guatemala on Wednesday. The match, held at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium, ended in a 6-0 loss for Dominica.
The atmosphere at the stadium was intense, with Guatemalan fans creating a hostile environment that the Dominican team had never experienced before. The adverse weather conditions, marked by rain and temperatures dropping into the low 60s at kickoff, further complicated the situation for Dominica.
Guatemala took an early lead, with Alejandro Galindo capitalizing on a defensive miscommunication to score just three minutes into the game. The second half saw Guatemala dominate the field, adding four more goals to their tally. Alejandro Galindo, Rubio Mendez, Jose Martinez, and Jose Morales each found the back of the net, sealing a comprehensive 6-0 victory for the home team.
Head Coach Ellington Sabin addressed the media in a post-match press conference, urging his team to move past the defeat and focus on their upcoming match. “We have to put this performance behind us and prepare for the next encounter against Jamaica on Sunday at Windsor Park,” Sabin stated.
