Fresh Elections Scheduled for October 11
ROSEAU, Dominica – September 28, 2025 — The Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) has announced a significant leadership transition following a decision taken at a Special General Meeting on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
In a move described as one of humility and respect for the Association’s Constitution, the Executive Committee — with the exception of Curtis Johan “Joey” Lloyd — voluntarily stepped down. The decision paves the way for fresh elections scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Outgoing President Davidson Victor, speaking on behalf of the eight resigning executive members, expressed gratitude to the membership for the opportunity to serve. He emphasized that the decision to step aside was driven by a desire to ensure full constitutional compliance and to reinforce the Association’s values of accountability and transparency.
In accordance with the DCA’s Constitution, Curtis Johan “Joey” Lloyd has been endorsed by the membership as Caretaker Executive Member. His sole responsibility in this interim period is to organise and oversee fair and transparent elections to select the new leadership team.
“This transition represents not just a procedural step, but a moment of renewal for the Association,” the DCA said in its public statement. “It underscores our unwavering commitment to the calypso community and the people of Dominica.”
The upcoming elections are expected to generate strong interest across the cultural landscape, given the central role the DCA plays in organising the annual calypso season, widely regarded as one of Dominica’s most anticipated cultural expressions.
Calypso, a genre deeply rooted in Caribbean identity and social commentary, continues to serve as a powerful platform for public dialogue and cultural pride. Leadership within the Association is therefore seen as not only an administrative responsibility but also a stewardship of one of Dominica’s most influential art forms.
