Dominica’s Chief Cultural Officer has been temporarily reassigned to the Dominica Festival Committee (DFC) to spearhead the organization of the much-anticipated Mass Dominik 2024, the Real Mas. This announcement comes as the nation gears up for a month-long Carnival Activity Period, showcasing the unique blend of tradition and contemporary flair that defines Dominica’s Carnival celebrations.
The Chief Cultural Officer’s Temporary Reassignment: Addressing the public, the Chief Cultural Officer emphasized that Carnival is inherently a cultural event, justifying the need for such a temporary reassignment. Drawing parallels to previous assignments for events like Creole Rendezvous and Jazz and Creole, the officer expressed eagerness to embrace the challenge, acknowledging the distinct passion Dominicans have for Carnival and the DFC.
Carnival 2024 Trifest
The Chief Cultural Officer outlined a three-in-one Carnival package for Mass Dominic 2024. The customary road parade, a spectacle featuring traditional mass, company floats, music bands, and more, will be managed to minimize gaps, ensuring a continuous representation of Dominican Carnival. The second segment unfolds at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, where patrons and invited guests will witness the ceremonious handing over of the keys to the city.
The trifest concludes at the stadium forecourt with “Band Meets Band,” featuring two popular Bouyon bands delivering the essence of Dominican Carnival through new releases. Additionally, the officer encouraged attendance at various village and town carnivals, dispelling the term “openings” and replacing it with the more accurate “Village or Town Carnivals.”
Additionally he highlighted that the Cultural Division, under his leadership, anticipates the return of the Ole Mas Jouvert event to Pointe Michel on January 13th at 4 a.m. The Miss Dominica Pageant on February 8th promises heightened standards with six contestants from various locations on the island, each bringing pageantry experience.
Sunrise, the premier breakfast event on February 9th, is set to feature genres ranging from Soca and Dennrey segment to Bouyon, with Problem Child announced as one of the headliners. Carnival Monday and Tuesday will host the Monday Jouvert, school parades, teachers’ bands, and winners’ parades, showcasing the richness of Dominican Carnival culture.

The Chief Cultural Officer passionately appealed for positive energy, practical suggestions, and support from the public.
