Carnival Opening Parade 2024 Traffic Arrangements Unveiled by Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force

January 5, 2024 — The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force has released official traffic arrangements for the opening parade of Carnival 2024, set to kick off on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 3 p.m. Officer Fixton Henderson, the PRO of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force, shared details of the approved traffic plan to ensure the smooth flow of the parade, marking the commencement of Carnival 2024, the real mas.

The designated parade route will commence with floats and bands assembling outside DBS Radio on Victoria Street. From there, the parade will move northwards along Victoria Street onto the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard, proceed eastwards along King George V Street, move northwards on Great George Street, continue eastwards on Riverbank, head southwards along Independence Street, proceed eastwards along Kennedy Avenue, culminating at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

To facilitate the parade, several areas have been designated as no-parking zones from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists are advised that both sides of Victoria Street from DBS Radio to the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard, both sides of King George V Street from Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard to the junction of Great George Street, both sides of Great George Street to the new West Bridge Riverbank, both sides of Riverbank, both sides of Independence Street, both sides of Kennedy Avenue, and both sides of Bath Road will be affected by the no-parking restrictions during the specified period.

Furthermore, specific bus stops will be relocated between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Soufrière Pointe-Michelle bus stops will be relocated to Virgin Lane in front of the Cathedral between Cross Street and Independence Street. The Saint-Joseph-Mare bus stops will be relocated along Saint-Johnson Avenue during the same period. Additionally, the Kenfield-Goodwill bus stops will be relocated to Lower River Street between Old Street and Great George Street.

Traffic diversions are expected to be in effect from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists traveling north along Victoria Street will be directed to turn right onto Old Street. Those traveling south from Roseau city will utilize the Stadium Link Road through the Botanical Gardens or Independence Street. Vehicles heading west on Turkey Lane will experience diversions to Jewel Street or Cross Street.

Certain areas will have restricted entry during the specified time frame. Victoria Street from its junction with High Street, Old Street from its junction with Church Street, Castle Street from its junction with Church Street, and Turkey Lane from its junction with Jewel Street will not allow entry.

The public is strongly urged to adhere to these traffic arrangements to ensure an orderly and safe Carnival opening parade. The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force emphasizes the importance of cooperation from the community to minimize delays, traffic congestion, and potential accidents during this festive occasion.
