Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica is set to attend two significant regional meetings in the coming days, focusing on key issues affecting the Caribbean and Latin American regions.
From February 25th to 28th, 2024, Prime Minister Skerrit will participate in the Forty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Georgetown, Guyana. The meeting’s agenda will encompass discussions on regional food and nutrition security, developments in regional transportation, climate change, climate financing, and global and hemispheric issues, including developments in the Middle East.
CARICOM Heads of Government will also address the ongoing situation in Haiti and receive updates on the implementation of decisions related to free movement for all Caribbean Community nationals.
Following the CARICOM meeting, Prime Minister Skerrit will proceed to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the 8th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on March 1st, 2024. The CELAC Summit aims to strengthen the organization and promote sustainable development in the Latin American and Caribbean regions.
During Prime Minister Skerrit’s absence, Honorable Dr. Irving McIntyre, Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, and Social Security, will serve as Acting Prime Minister of Dominica.
