The Caribbean Music Awards 2024 will honor three legendary female artists at its upcoming event on August 29th in Brooklyn, New York, at Kings Theatre. Marcia Griffiths, Alison Hinds, and Cedella Marley are set to receive the highest accolades of the night for their monumental contributions to Caribbean music.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Marcia Griffiths, whose career spans decades with timeless hits like “I Shall Sing” and “All My Life.” Known for her iconic rendition of “Electric Boogie,” Griffiths holds the record for the highest-selling single by a female reggae singer. Her legacy also includes being a vocalist for the I-Threes, backing Bob Marley.
Alison Hinds, dubbed the “Queen of Soca,” will be honored with the Elite Icon Award. Hinds is celebrated for her influential tracks “Fuluma” and “Roll It Gyal,” which have become anthems at Caribbean carnivals worldwide, embedding her contributions into the DNA of Caribbean culture.
Cedella Marley, a three-time Grammy winner and philanthropist, will receive the Legacy Award. Marley’s work transcends music, impacting fashion, arts, and social responsibility. Her dedication to preserving and enriching Caribbean heritage is unparalleled.
The Caribbean Music Awards celebrate the rich musical heritage of the Caribbean, honoring artists who have significantly impacted its evolution. Last year’s inaugural event saw Buju Banton receiving the Humanitarian Award, while Beres Hammond was honored with the Elite Icon Award. This year promises even more excitement and recognition for extraordinary talent.
