Portsmouth, Dominica – The Aspirers Athletic Club has arrived in Martinique today, Friday, March 14, 2025, to compete in the Martinique CARIFTA Finals over the weekend. This two-day competition, set for Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16, 2025, serves as a crucial stepping stone for Dominican athletes seeking to qualify for the 2025 CARIFTA Games in Trinidad during the Easter break.
The CARIFTA Games, often referred to as the Junior Olympics of the Caribbean, is the premier track and field event for young athletes in the region. The Aspirers AC will field a formidable 11-member team competing in sprints, middle-distance races, long jump, triple jump, and relays, as they strive to meet the Dominica Athletics Association (DAA) qualification standards.

Speaking ahead of the competition, Head Coach Nabi Wallace expressed confidence in the team’s ability to secure CARIFTA qualification:
“This competition is an important stepping stone for our athletes as they strive to represent Dominica at the 2025 CARIFTA Games. They have worked extremely hard, and we expect them to perform at their best. By the time we return on Sunday evening, we hope to celebrate the success of all 11 athletes meeting the qualifying standard.”

Coach Nabi Wallace Expresses Confidence in Team’s Readiness
Speaking exclusively to Nate Media, Head Coach Nabi Wallace expressed optimism about the team’s potential at the upcoming meet. “The Aspirers Athletic Club is prepared to compete at the Martinique CARIFTA Finals this weekend over a two-day period, and we are hoping to see our athletes surpass their previous bests,” said Wallace.
He acknowledged the talent and dedication of the 2024 team, highlighting their training, commitment, and discipline leading up to the competition. “Our young athletes have been training hard, and we are confident that their efforts will be reflected on the track and in the field.”
Northern Youths Shine on the Regional Stage
This year’s team includes some of Dominica’s most promising young athletes, many of whom have already made a name for themselves in local and regional athletics. Notably, Maia T. Bertrand and Ken-G Delsol will be competing as recipients of the prestigious J.B. Eugene Scholarship, while Kira Frank and Curin Curdlyn Thomas, recipients of the Father Raymond Proesmans Scholarship, will also be part of this dynamic group.
