Downsound Entertainment CEO Joe Bogdanovich Announces Dancehall Icon’s Return to the Stage in Montego Bay

Reggae and dancehall fans worldwide are buzzing with excitement following confirmation from Reggae Sumfest CEO Josef “Joe” Bogdanovich that Vybz Kartel will headline the 2025 edition of the internationally renowned music festival. The announcement was made on Sunday, April 13, following Bogdanovich’s visit to Brooklyn, New York, where Kartel delivered two back-to-back sold-out performances at the 19,000-seat Barclays Center.

This marks a major moment in dancehall history, as the iconic deejay, who has long been considered a cornerstone of the genre, is set to make a powerful return to the Jamaican stage at Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay from July 13–19, 2025.

“The countdown is now on,” Bogdanovich said in a conversation with Caribbean Life. “It’s going to be an unforgettable showcase of Jamaican music.”

Bogdanovich confirmed that Kartel’s set will last approximately an hour, with the expectation of a unique and powerful performance from the artist known for continually pushing the creative boundaries of dancehall.

“He’s not an AI guy; he’s a real guy,” Bogdanovich said. “The sky continues to be the limit for him.”

Packed Line-Up for 2025 Festival

Joining Vybz Kartel on Friday night’s lineup are several of Jamaica’s biggest names in modern dancehall, including Masicka, Tommy Lee Sparta, Govana, Skeng, D’Yani, Laden, Shaneil Muir, and Jah Fabio. On Saturday night, the stage will feature Sizzla Kalonji, Tarrus Riley, Protoje, Shenseea, Lila Iké, Fantan Mojah, I-Wayne, Pressure, and Bugle.

With such a star-studded billing, Sumfest 2025 is shaping up to be a milestone event in the Caribbean music calendar.
