Brooklyn-born Dominican Artist TriSzy Celebrates Global Buzz and Cultural Pride Through Infectious New Single “Mood”

A Journey Rooted in Culture, Paved in Versatility
Though based in the U.S., TriSzy’s journey is deeply rooted in Dominica. After spending part of his early life on the island and attending Convent Preparatory and Dominica Grammar School, he moved back to the United States, where he launched his music career as a rapper with the collective The Mixed Breed (TMB). Over time, his sound evolved to incorporate Hip Hop, R&B, Soca, and Dancehall — culminating in what he now calls “Island Pop.”
Despite his multi-genre influences, TriSzy has never abandoned his Dominican identity. Collaborations with local heavyweights like Colton T and Shelly helped bridge his U.S.-based artistry with homegrown Dominican sounds. His 2021 single “If Is One Thing” was a direct response to a statement made by a Bouyon promoter claiming Bouyon was the only genre capable of “making it out” of Dominica.
“At the time, I felt I had to prove that Hip Hop and other genres could represent Dominica too,” TriSzy said. “So, I tackled it in song.”
But his foray into Bouyon with “Mood” marks a new chapter — one born not of defense, but of creative exploration.
“With this single, I really just wanted to see if I could sing on a Bouyon track,” he explained. “I never expected the kind of love I’m getting now.”
Bouyon’s Bright Future
Bouyon, born in Dominica during the late 1980s and pioneered by bands like WCK and First Serenade, has expanded globally, giving birth to sub-genres such as Bouyon Soca, Bouyon Dancehall, and the more underground Nasty Business. The genre’s influence can be seen throughout the region, especially in St. Lucia’s Dennery Segment, and is now gaining traction on major international stages.
TriSzy’s success with “Mood” is part of that growing wave. His presence as a U.S.-based Dominican artist embracing Bouyon reaffirms the genre’s borderless appeal.
